The Road Trip

Around 6:00 PM on August 2, my family and I strapped the car cargo to the roof of the Saturn Vue, filled it up with our luggage, and packed into the car with a long trip ahead of us. We were driving to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Alex said he wasn't going to sleep but I caught him snoozing on the way to New Orleans.

Josh had to go to the bathroom bad and said he could fill a 20 oz. pop bottle. Well, we found a bottle and Josh proved us all wrong by nearly filling it!

Despite being cramped, we were able to make to New Orleans by mid-afternoon on August 3. No one got a lot of sleep but we were excited to be at our destination. We unloaded the Vue, checked into our hotel, and hit the streets of New Orleans. We were all curious if we would see the effects of Hurricane Katrina.




After a walk downtown and along the Mississippi, we headed back to the hotel for some evening snacks. We then took turns resting and cleaning up so we could go out to eat for some good ol' Cajun cooking. Upon recommendation, we ended up at Deanie's. We had some great sea food without too much of a Cajun kick (at least for Minnesotans).




Then of course, what would make a night complete in New Orleans - oh, a stroll down Bourbon Street. That was quite an experience, especially with two teenage brothers. Lets just say we didn't see things we normally see walking down Division Street or Oliver Avenue.
