Safety Training

I forgot to include these photos from the cruise. I took them with my cell phone while we were completing our safety training.

Emergency safety training was one of the first things we did on the cruise. We were able to get onboard, put our luggage away, and eat before the alarm rang. Then all of a sudden a loud siren began blaring around the ship. The cruise captain came on the loud speaker to instruct us to grab our life jackets from our room, put them on, and meet in the Americana Lounge. Don't worry, he warned us that this was just a test. We kind of knew this was coming because the cruise staff lined the hallways with life vests as we left the cafeteria. Either we were going down near the port of Mobile or this was practice.

So all of us grabbed our life vests, except Dean, he didn't have one in his room. We clumsily put the jackets on each of us. These jackets are HUGE! We then joined the mass of orange vested, no neck people climbing the stairs to deck 10.

We uncomfortably sat to the instructions in the Americana Lounge and then we headed to our pre-assigned life boat. We learned which boat was ours, how to load it (women and children first - whew!), and what to do when we got in the water. We also learned how to operate each trinket on our life vest. We had lights and whistles to use to call for help.

After our training, we were able to put our vests away and relax. It was a little nerve-racking knowing that if we did have an emergency, we would have to sprint down several flights of stairs to deck 4, grab our jackets, and return to deck 10 - all of this in the midst of chaos. However, once we got to sea, we didn't really think about an emergency. We were too busy with everything else going on throughout the ship.
