Baseball Season Begins

Alex has started his baseball season. So far the team has played one game (the other two have been postponed due to weather or field conditions).

The Raiders played Waseca on Monday and beat them 2-1 in extra innings. It wasn't pretty. There were several errors and just silly mental mistakes. Alex did okay behind the plate. He went 1-3 at the plate hitting a blooper pop fly that the short-stop missed (so he really reached base due to an error).

Hopefully the weather will soon feel like April weather and the snow will melt so we can have some baseball!

Woodlake Metro Dental Office

I had the joy of going to my first dentist appointment in the cities. I have chosen a new dentist, 3rd one in my lifetime, near our house in Richfield. I was originally going to go with the dentist office that is connected to our backyard. After some inquiries with insurance, I found that it would be better/more affordable to go with a dentist office under the preferred network. It turns out the extremely intriguing dental office, Woodlake Metro Dental, above Houlihan's restaurant on 66th and Lyndale is in my network. This dentist office has huge windows that look out on the streets of 66th and Lyndale. After hours, they put giant stuffed bears in the chairs for drivers to see.

Excited about the view I would get from the dentist chair, I scheduled an appointment for this morning. But to my disappointment, I got the one room with NO windows! They weren't using those window rooms because it was too cold! They had to break out the space heaters to warm each room for the patients. Is it really April?!

The good news is that I have no cavities! Dr. Eugene Gomes was impressed. Check out the pearly whites and new toothbrush to the left. Now I can continue my diet of soda and sour patch kids without worry.

Finally a Clean and Organized Classroom

It is 95% official that I will be back next year as a 6th grade math, LA, and reading teacher in Edina. Not 100% because there is still time for me to do something stupid to mess things up in school. Pink slips also went out before spring break and I did not receive one which is wonderful!

Knowing I will be back, I used my first day and half of break to clean out and organize my classroom. I have a lot of things from the previous math teacher that I don't use so I packed it up to save for her. I also was in need of a spring cleaning and change of scenery. So I rearranged things in my room.
I know many people reading this blog have never seen my classroom but here are some photos of the newly cleaned and organized room (now I won't be able to find anything next week during class).

Spring Break

I have had the pleasure of enjoying spring break this week. It officially started on April 1 and continues until Easter Sunday. For the past five days I have been busy with many spring break type activities (I wish the weather made it feel like spring break instead of winter break). So in attempt to fill everyone in with my latest life events, here are some pictures which will explain it all.
I am really good at this spring break activity.

I have eaten A LOT! I would highly recommend these chocolate and caramel chex. They are tasty!

I have watched hours of TV.

I have read a few pages here and there as well. Nothing like a good middle school science fiction book over spring break.

Okay, here are some of the more productive activities of my break.Laundry.

Vacuuming.

Disclaimer with poor pictures and photography: I am on spring break - showers are rare, wearing pajamas all day is a must, and combing my hair doesn't really happen. And taking pictures of yourself, by yourself, is very difficult.

The St. Peter Sensation

If you haven't heard already, Megan Vogel has been drafted by the Washington Mystics. Yes, the Megan Vogel from little St. Peter, MN.

It has been really fun reading the articles in the Mankato Free Press and Star Tribune as well as posts on the WNBA website.

Megan had an awesome collegiate career at South Dakota State University. Charlie and I got to see one of the most exciting SDSU games against the Minnesota Gophers this year. The Jackrabbits beat the Gophers in the final seconds of the game (at least that was how the offficials called it at the end of the game).

I am excited to follow Megan's new journey in the WNBA. I hope the new season workouts go well and she enjoys the experience. Her stories of the pre-draft camp leads me to believe she has enjoyed every step of the way so far. She is definitely inspiring young girls in small towns of Minnesota.

Congratulations Megan and good luck!

Oh, by the way, Bri Monahan was not drafted but perhaps she will try out. Man, Gustavus is getting a lot of basketball press with two All-Americans and a WNBA phone call by the LA Sparks.
